The island's capital, the small port of Sali comes alive with the passage of ferries. In the Middle Ages, salt works were in operation, hence its name, first mentioned in an official document in 1105. Since the fish cannery closed, the port has become less active, fishermen have left the island to work on cargo ships. Today, tourism provides the first economic windfall. Holidaymakers who stay on the island - some a little Robinson at heart or holidaymakers, find in the village all the necessary supplies for their installation. Here, many resources arrive by boat but nothing is missing: supermarket, post office, bookshop, coffee shops, receptive agencies, car rental companies... Dugi Otok also has some very pleasant diving spots and anchorages. In its well sheltered bay, this village appeals to boaters who visit the Kornati archipelago. It is a quiet stopover, where the island's authenticity is still palpable.
