15 km from Antalya and 36 km from Aspendos, this archaeological site has the largest stadium in Asia Minor and a well preserved porticoed road. It does not leave an impression of abandonment. Mosaics and fragments of capitals are trodden on and souvenir sellers occupy the place of the merchants of yesteryear. The remote location of this city, founded around 1000 BC, is explained by the fact that it was protected from the continuous attacks of pirates. Its inhabitants gave a warm welcome to Alexander the Great, who was followed by the Seleucids. At that time, the famous mathematician Apollonius lived in Perga.
