Seventy kilometers southeast of Malatya and 50 kilometers north of Kâhta, Nemrut dağı is unmissable. Mount Nemrud or Nimrod, which is a part of the Taurus mountain range, rises to 2,150 m and overlooks the national park of the same name. This mountain houses the mausoleum of King Antiochus Theos I of Commagene (69-23 BC). Cleared from 1881 by the German Karl Sester and registered with the world heritage since 1987, this tomb is completely disproportionate to what was his reign. Antiochus Theos Ist wanted to get closer to the gods for his rest, pretentious perhaps, successful surely! The mount is accessible only in summer.
