23 km from Nevşehir, Ürgüp is an important tourist centre. Its numerous boutiques selling carpets, jewellery and handicrafts will delight shopping enthusiasts. This small, lively town is an excellent base for exploring the region. In winter, the inhabitants turn to their traditional occupations and the atmosphere becomes much more intimate again. The town is located at the bottom of a dug-out cliff with several troglodytic dwellings that are now unoccupied. Ürgüp is also the capital of an important wine region. And you can buy a few bottles at the cellar at the entrance of the city
