2 km from Ürgüp. Among the villages in the heart of Cappadocia, Ortahisar ("the middle fortress") is undoubtedly the most authentic. One would only see Çavuşin as a potential competitor. Tourism is known here, yet life goes on at its own pace. This village is famous in the region for its huge fruit and vegetable warehouses dug out of its basement, whose ventilation shafts can be seen. Its citadel, closed, sheltered the inhabitants before the construction of the traditional houses. Some churches are worth seeing, such as the one in Cambazlı kilise, the church of St. Basil, and the one, converted into a barn, in Ali Reis Street.
