Built in the 14th century, the mosque was destroyed at the end of the 18th century by an earthquake. The present building, in a whimsical Rococo style, dates from Sultan Selim III. The octagonal mausoleum contains the tomb of Emir Sultan, a man of science who became the Sultan's son-in-law Yıldırım Beyazıt. It can be compared in some ways to the sacred tomb of Eyüp in Istanbul. The site is connected to the mosque Beyazıt by a path that runs along the cemetery and offers a panoramic view of the city.
