Located on the other side of the eponymous pass, east of the main island, Tiputa is a nice half-day excursion option. It can be reached by water taxi: count 300 CFP one way and 600 CFP round trip per person (or 1,000 CFP with a bicycle). The shuttle operates every hour from 6 am to 5 pm. More traditional than its neighbour, the village of Tiputa lives away from the tourist hustle and bustle of Avatoru. Some people find it prettier than its neighbour: it's up to you to make up your own mind. The Tiputa Lodge pension will welcome you if you wish to stay there; the village also has two grocery stores and a craft fare on the quay.
