Designed by architects Francesc Mitjans Miró and Josep Soteras Mauri, with the collaboration of Lorenzo García Barbón, the stadium was built between 1955 and 1957, mainly in concrete and iron. With a capacity of 99,354, it is currently the largest stadium in Europe. However, its total capacity has varied over the years due to various modifications. Inside the stadium are various facilities such as a chapel next to the changing rooms, the presidential box, the VIP lounge, press rooms, several TV studios, the sports medicine center, the FC Barcelona club museum and the offices of all the club's various departments. The stadium also received UEFA recognition as a five-star stadium in 1998-1999. It is open to the public and offers guided tours, as well as a museum dedicated to the club's history.
