After Cairo or Luxor, it is certainly the most famous city in Egypt. In the far south of the country, between the Red Sea and the Sinai Mountains, Sharm El Sheikh is in a very special situation. It is both an important commercial port at the tip of the Sinai desert and a very touristic seaside resort. For the past thirty years, it has been a popular destination, especially for scuba divers, who find welcoming facilities and a transparent sea. This locality occupies a strategic position between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, a source of conflict between Israel and Egypt. Charm El-Cheick is a destination very popular with Europeans and also famous for having been the setting for a dramatic air crash in 2015

Sailing and kitesurfing enthusiasts will find favourable conditions here, even if the wind can sometimes be very violent. In addition to the pleasures of the seaside, you can take a camel ride in the desert and spend the evening in a Bedouin camp, discover in a 4x4 the Coloured Canyon which bears its name well, climb to the top of Mount Sinai, visit the Orthodox monastery of Saint Catherine, one of the oldest in the world still in activity, rich in a collection of Greek and Russian icons and very beautiful mosaics. Take your tour guide everywhere with you.

When to go to Sharm El-Sheikh?

When to go to Egypt? It's simple: all year round! However, be aware that on the Mediterranean coast, the high season runs from July to September. No problem to stay during Ramadan even if the hours of museums and sites are shortened. On the other hand, the nightlife is incomparable, with concerts organized in the streets, cafés, cultural centers, and Ramadan tents that welcome musicians until 4am. It is better to avoid Eid celebrations, which are family celebrations and do not give rise to any particular event. The high season begins in October and ends in March. The low season begins in April and ends in September. The hottest months are June and July.

Flying is the best way to get to Egypt. While most airline tickets are sold for Cairo, there are seven airports in the country, including Sharm el Sheikh. The southern seaside resort can also be reached by bus from several Egyptian cities, and by boat from Hurghada and Aqaba. Attention for tourist services, unless there are good contacts on the spot and a good knowledge of the country's codes, the individual traveller will pay twice as much on the spot.

If you come on an organized trip, no problem. The shuttle takes you to your hotel and if your stay is seaside, all you have to do is walk to your deckchair! You can also sail and go on a small sea cruise. We do not recommend renting a car that will be of little use to you. Moreover, driving in Egypt is no easy task.... In the city, prefer to travel by taxi.
