Marsa Alam is the last southernmost village on the Egyptian Red Sea coast. It lies 290 kilometers south of Hurghada and 132 kilometers from El Quseir. A popular destination for divers, the site and its surroundings have attracted numerous water sports enthusiasts as well as lovers of wide-open spaces under the sea: the surrounding area abounds in excellent diving spots. Diving, snorkeling and other water sports are just some of the reasons to stay in the region. Still unknown to the general public some twenty years ago, Marsa Alam has become a trend-setter in the diving world... yet it has managed to remain authentic... A far, far cry from the tourist development of resorts such as Hurghada or Sharm El Sheik, where, for example, it is difficult to access a beach outside the hotels and where the seabed has often suffered from anarchic development. Marsa Alam remains unadorned, even if some will find the number of hotels (or ecodologs) built here already too great. Most of these are located outside town, and travellers who take the time to stroll through the village center will discover the life of a pleasant little Egyptian town by the sea. We recommend it! Access by bus: from Hurghada, about 2 buses a day (4-hour drive). Marsa Alam also has an airport.
