Just 10 km from Balat, don't miss a visit to this pretty traditional village, renowned for its pink-tinted houses. Some of them are adjoined by Roman tombs that can be visited, the most famous being that of Kitanos. Also worthy of note is the mausoleum of Sheikh Bashandi, built in the Mamluk style, with crenellated walls topped by a dome characteristic of the period. The sheikh was of Indian origin, hence his name, which comes from a contraction of "Pacha Indi". A tour of Bashandi is also worthwhile, as this village dates back to very ancient Egyptian times. And don't miss a visit to the handicraft workshops.
