This area was formally discouraged by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) when the guide was printed. This oasis is made up of some fifteen villages, linked by mostly asphalted roads, where palm groves (the local dates are renowned) alternate with mango and apricot orchards, vineyards and market gardens. The desert is less present here than in Farafra. As in Fayoum, Dakhla has a certain prosperity, a wealth that comes from working the soil and its fertility. Rich in sites and vestiges, Dakhla offers some splendid walks in the vicinity of Mout, the main village.
