It's more of a big town than a real city. Qena has little to offer except the kindness of its people. The surroundings of Qena are a renowned handicraft centre, although pottery has been a primary activity here for ages. It is not uncommon to see mounds of jars, intended to hold water, drying, over infinite lengths, in full sunlight. Two interesting craft addresses on the road from Luxor to Qena. That of Pierre Boutros in Hegaza and his woodworking workshop and that of Garagos and his potter's workshop. Their production, original and of high quality, are sold throughout the country.
