From Luxor, you'll need to hire a cab or have your own vehicle. You can leave as early as 6 a.m., and return to Luxor by 6 p.m.; there are no longer any police-protected convoys, but checkpoints. The town of Denderah, now a simple village, was once the capital of the 6th Nome of Upper Egypt. Hathor, its patron goddess to whom the temple is dedicated, was likened by the Greeks to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Hathor is most often represented in human form, her head adorned with two horns framing the solar disk, or with a cow's head.
