Museum offering a guided tour of the world's largest collection of Islamic art.

Inaugurated in 1903, it houses the largest collection of Islamic art works in the world. Only over 1% of the 100,000 objects he preserves are exposed to the public. On January 24, 2014, the façade and 180 vases and glass lamps were severely damaged in the explosion of a truck trapped in front of the museum. After three years of renovation, financed by the United Arab Emirates, the museum finally reopened in early 2017. Much of the museum's museography is well-developed and has been enriched by new rooms, such as those devoted to daily life. The visit begins with the central hall, at the top of the steps, and continues on the right wing which resumed the chronology of the five dynasties that led Egypt: Omeyyades, Abbassides, Fatimides, Ayyoubides, Mamelouks to the father of modern Egypt, Mohamed Ali. You will then fall on the left wing, which includes thematic rooms and temporary exhibition. The golden signs point to masterpieces not to be missed. The explanations remain brief. It is recommended to ask for a guided tour.
