Travel Guide Tunduma

Tunduma, 116 km from Mbeya on the Tanzam Highway, is the last town in Tanzania before the Zambian border. It is situated at an altitude of 1,600 m on the edge of a high plateau. There is nothing to do there and as is often the case with border towns, it is never very safe to walk around. Trains between Dar and Zambia stop twice a week in both directions at Tunduma (www.tazarasite.com). Many matutus connect Tunduma to Mbeya (2 hours). There are also buses to Sumbawanga (6 hours drive, via the new Tunduma - Kigoma road). The regions crossed are extremely wild and little frequented by Westerners.
