A visit to the central market of Darajani is essential to understand the local life.

Expect to feast your eyes and nostrils! The central Darajani market, also known as Marikiti Kuu, "big market" in Swahili, was built in 1904 by Sultan Ali Bin Hamud. It was recently renovated to improve sanitary conditions. There is a succession of meat stalls on one side and fish stalls on the other. Flies cling to the carcasses and cats scavenge for scraps. Nevertheless, this visit is essential for understanding local life. The section devoted to spices and fruit and vegetables is pleasant.

Toujours sur le trajet de votre balade pédestre de la ville, ce lieu incontournable est à visiter, l'ambiance est excellente, petit marché aux poissons (remarquez le peu de conditions d'hygiène!), marché aux fruits et légumes et celui des épices (si achats, négociez car ici on attend le touriste avec des prix très élevés).

La visite est rapide car ce marché n'est pas très grand. Celui qui n'a jamais vue des marchés africains ou asiatiques pourra apprécié "le décalage" avec nos normes sanitaires.

célèbre marché aux épices. attention bien négocié les tarifs et aux produits légèrement frauduleux (éviter la vanille en "poudre" totalement immangeable)
possibilité de visiter le marché couvert aux viandes si vous avez l'estomac bien accroché
