CITY TOUR
An opportunity to discover the architectural heritage of the city of Issoire, such as its private mansions, through a visit.
To learn more about the architectural heritage of Issoire, a member of the "Plus Beaux Détours de France", visit the tourist office to obtain a map of the discovery tour. Start your visit at the Saint-Austremoine abbey church, then explore the old town, which has retained its original layout, with today's boulevards simply replacing yesterday's fortifications. As you stroll through the streets, admire the Tour de l'Horloge, the former communal belfry, built in the 15th century and featuring a Volvic stone façade dating from 1840. Exhibitions are held here all year round, and the belvedere offers a unique view of the town and surrounding mountains: the Sancy, the Chaîne des Puys and the Cézallier. Then, all over town, in the maze of alleyways, you'll discover a collection of 15th and 18th century town houses, including the Hôtel Bohier, Hôtel Clément, Hôtel Charrier, Maison Bartin and the house of Chancellor Duprat. At the heart of the town, the colorful Place de la République comes alive for a magnificent market every Saturday morning. To round off your stroll, take the time to relax along the couze-Pavin, in the pretty park behind the abbey church: a refreshing stopover!
