To the south-west, 3 km from Haapsalu towards the port of Rohuküla, you can stop to contemplate the ruins of Ugru Castle, where Tsar Peter the Great sometimes came to stay. Just opposite lies the Paralepa forest park.In ruins and, until recently, totally deserted, the island of Vormsi, a former Swedish dependency covering 93 km2, is reviving with tourism and the charm of its past. The population was predominantly Swedish before emigrating to Sweden in 1944, when the USSR took possession of Estonia. The best way to discover it is by bike or on foot.
