Founded in 1260 by the Teutonic Knights who established a fortress there, Paide is a small town of interest for its regional history museum and, above all, for being the starting point for the Endla nature reserve. Endla, whose tourist centre is in Tooma, is a marshy area inhabited by beavers and where you can see the deepest spring in the country. The town has preserved several old buildings in classical style as well as a part of the former castle of the Teutonic Order. On Mount Valimagi, a monument to the four leaders of the peasant uprising against this order was erected in 1343.
