Easily accessible from Plovdiv via Assenovgrad, the small village of Batchkovo is famous for its beautiful monastery (2 km from the village, accessible on foot) listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Near the monastery there are a few restaurants. You can spend the night at the monastery. The dormitories are rather spartan, without heating and without hot water in the bathrooms. Tempted? Make a reservation by phone or on the spot according to availability. Batchkovo is also an excellent starting point for hiking and walking in the surroundings. The mountains and the nature are really great.
