Kazanlak (45,000 inhabitants) is the main city of the Rose Valley, a region dedicated to the production of floral essence. Every year, in the first week of June, the Rose Festival is held here, a traditional festival celebrating the blooming of the flowers and the spring. Each day is full of events related to the rose; at the end, the queen of roses is chosen. Kazanlak is not a very picturesque city, but it is still pleasant and has a small district of the national revival, the district of Koulata. One comes there especially to discover the museum of the Rose and a Thracian burial site from the end of the 4th century BC (classified by UNESCO).
