Travel Guide Tassili N'Ajjer

We talk less than the Tassili of the Hoggar with which he has nothing to see, but the Tassili n'Ajjer is this region of Algeria where most of the reproductions of rock paintings that we discovered one day, stunned by the grace and mystery that characterize them. But, beyond its immense archaeological wealth, the Tassili deserves to be discovered rather than randomly from a travel agency catalogue because it has the merit of being all deserts at a time. From the mineral Tassili to the fantastic Tadrart, from the Erg Admer to the beautiful dunes in the Djerat Oued in which the first paintings were observed, the Tassili n'Ajjer corresponds to all the plateaus (tassili) and the oubari that protect their access, located in the extreme south-east of Algeria. With an area of 114 000 km 2, it is limited to the east and south by Libya and Niger and to the west by the Hoggar massif. A unique road axis from Illizi via Bordj El-Haouès leads to the Urbanized town of Djanet.By its average altitude, from 1 200 m to 1 500 m, the region has relatively good weather conditions that have allowed the development of rich fauna and flora. The flora is typical of these desert regions, but some very old specimens have managed to survive like the millennia-old cypress trees of Tamrit or some wild oliviers trees. Animals also have adapted, even though many have disappeared, like the crocodile or antelope, or are disappearing, like the cheetah we see about every twenty years. However, there are manchette, gazelles and small mammals such as fennec.Oasis with soft and restful charm, closed on almost all its length between two black mountain chains dominated by Mount Timbeur, Djanet is very different from Tamanrasset while being its complement almost indispensable. Caught between the cliffs that protect the Idjeriou Oued and the Tassili, the small town seems almost Mediterranean and deserves a little more than the night of arrival (or departure). The name of the small town would mean "paradise" (aldjanet) or "chamelles look".
