About kilometres south of Souk-Ahras, on the road to Tébessa, this is where the philosopher Apuleius (125-170, principal works: Métamorphoses or Ane of gold) and that were located the schools that were the renown of Thagaste and where Saint Augustine did his Studies. See among the vestiges dating back to that time: Roman ruins, mausoleum, theatre, thermal baths, Christian basilica, Byzantine fort and remnants of oil mills. The site is magnificent, especially in the early spring when it covers purple that gave its nickname to "Madaure La".
