At an altitude of almost 300 m, on the slopes of a hill, Guelma borders the Constantine-Annaba road. Formerly a Numidian city, it became Roman in the first century B.C., following Caesar's victory over Juba I, and took the name of Calama.Today, the city lives on livestock and cereal crops as well as processing factories and the manufacture of porcelain using the kaolin of the deposits of Jebel Debagh.
