Between the Mediterranean Sea and the summits of the Djurdjura massif, Tizi Ouzou, whose name means "broom pass" in Kabyle, is located at the crossroads of several roads, halfway between Algiers and Bejaïa, the sea and the Kabyle mountains, at an altitude of 200 m. The city is protected to the north by the djebel Belloua, a hill covered with oak trees. Tizi Ouzou has long benefited from its privileged location but has experienced a certain decline in the 1980s and is struggling to regain its appeal despite work to beautify it. Above all, the city remains little touristy and not really interesting for visitors, except for those who have family there, of course. However, walking enthusiasts should avoid hiking alone in the Djudjura mountains for obvious safety reasons. Indeed, even if the region is now reputed to be safe and nothing will happen to you either in town or in the villages, it is better to avoid going hiking alone because a tourist is quickly spotted and bad encounters are not impossible..
