With a name that means in Arabic «the happy», Saida is located at 840 m above the High plateaux, on the edge of Tell oranais. As an agricultural target - 80% of the population lives - it has developed in the past thanks to the very present alfa in that region, which was dealt with in the former Aïn factory El-Hadjar. In the south of the city you can still see the ruins of the city founded by the Emir Abdelkader at the time of his resistance against the French. On the road between Oran and Saida, there was the Habra dam, a long 500 and 40 m high, which collapsed in 1882 causing hundreds of deaths.
