BAALBEC

Petit Futé's opinion on BAALBEC

Vintage plate 2018

Baalbec is really a must-see restaurant in Oran for those who love gourmet cuisine, elegance and trendy parties. At the helm of this establishment, Fouzia, a warm and very professional boss, who travelled all over the world before deciding to return to Canastel, her childhood district, to open Baalbec in 2012. Moreover, Baalbec is a direct reference to Proust, it is her own little madeleine with an oriental touch... She will be happy to tell you this incredible Proustian story of Baalbec that the writer of the Recherche du Temps Perdu would probably have appreciated.

The decoration is chic and inspired by Fouzia's travels, including objects that she was able to bring back from her stays abroad, with references to Art Deco as well as pieces from different countries in Africa and Syria. The lounge is particularly pleasant with its very Zanzibar style and dimmed lights where you immediately feel good to drink a small glass of rosé or a cocktail. And if hunger takes you, you will be served some creamy tapas and a bistro menu awaits the most hungry. But for gourmets, the restaurant is a must. Set in a very beautiful room with elegant furniture and pretty sails, you will enjoy a semi-gastronomic cuisine based on local slate products, depending on the seasons and the arrival of the market. It's always very creative with beautiful culinary influences from both Asia and the islands. Finally, Thursday evening is the big party with a band that often performs live at the beginning of the evening and a DJ who goes on to the turntables until 4am! The track is on fire, people dance and have fun in a good-natured and glamorous atmosphere on the best hits of the moment. We could be in Paris or Miami but suddenly we remember that we are in Oran when a good piece of Sheikha Rimitti sounds...
