NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Read moreOn Independence Avenue, a marine cow (a dudong) and a sculpted crocodile report the entry: welcome to the Museum of Natural History, where you will be reminded that the marshes of the archipelago were once infested with salt water. In 1775, a crocodile killed in La Digue (which has its Anse Cayman) measured four metres long and three circumference around the abdomen! This small, discret museum evokes seychellois flora and fauna, naturalized tortues turtles (more than two metres!) and a giant preserved coral. Above all, we admire a huge cocofesse of 18 kg and a very unusual one, as trilobé. Birds are not forgotten, a device for listening on simple pressure to the songs of seven rare zwazo in the archipelago: zirondel and tok tok, zwazo bannann and timerl dezil, black widow, singer singer and owl. The first floor is devoted to the British artist Marianne North (1830-1890), who was the first to paint this paradise archipelago, some reproductions attesting to his talent. At the same level, there is a children's corner where they can paint and draw, pass the sand to the sieve or play with moulding paste to shape a reken (shark) or a kourpa (snail), a krab (crab) or a lezar (lizard). The visit is therefore required if one stays in Mahé with its repudiation. You can also consult or view books and videos on subjects as seychelles as Aldabra or Mer. Exhibitions are also available (reptiles, carnivorous plants, etc.).
