This prestigious seaside resort was first and foremost a holiday destination for the royal family in the early 20th century. Several palaces, a magnificent little royal railway station and the kingdom's first golf course were built here. Only a 2h30 drive from the capital, it then attracted the Thai middle classes, particularly for weekends and festive periods, playing in some ways the same role as Deauville for Parisians. And for some years now, Hua Hin, away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, has been attracting Westerners, mostly French, Scandinavians and Germans, in search of a peaceful residence.
