The province of Rayong is not very popular with foreigners. The town itself doesn't offer much in the way of interest, and travellers mainly head for the island of Koh Samet via the Ban Phe pier. Thai families come here regularly at weekends to enjoy the surrounding beaches. If you need to sleep in town, it's easy to find establishments to suit all budgets. From Bangkok-Ekkamai station, buses leave every half-hour or so between 4:30 a.m. and 7:20 p.m., for a 3-hour journey at a fare of around B 140. In the opposite direction, departures between 3.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m.
