It evokes the image of those working class cities, developed in the middle of nowhere. The sad, windy streets and the charmless urban architecture do not play in its favor! On the other hand, it is the most important urban center south of Comodoro Rivadavia and there are some interesting museums. Its economy is based mainly on the sheep industry and on the activity of the port from where coal is shipped from the mines. The main interest of the city is that it is located at the crossroads of the two main roads that crisscross Patagonia: Route 3 that runs along the coast towards Bahia Blanca and the mythical Route 40.
