First named "the bay of forced labor" by Magellan in memory of the bad weather when he entered the bay, it was the English privateer Thomas Cavendish who gave it its name in 1586: one of his three ships was called Desire(Deseo). Later, in 1833, when the Beagle commanded by FitzRoy docked, there was not much left of the colony built by the Spaniards. The first Argentine immigrants did not arrive until the end of the 19th century. It is an attractive little town in one of the least touristy areas of the Atlantic coast.
