A small colonial village 16 km from La Quiaca, Yavi is best known for its caves with cave paintings and its well-preserved 17th century church, famous for its golden altar and pulpit. Yavi was the stronghold of the Marquis de Campero, and one of his last descendants had this chapel built. The village also has a small Casa del Marqués museum that pays homage to the Marquises through relics from that time. If you are in La Quiaca waiting for a bus to Bolivia, do not hesitate to make this small detour. By bus, about one departure every hour to Yavi from La Quiaca. The other possibility is to share a taxi.
