Cachi is a magnificent stopover, a small village entirely preserved by its isolation at an altitude of 2,300 m, facing the top of the mountain range, the Nevado of Cachi. When you arrive in the vicinity of Cachi, you have the impression of coming across a new oasis, surrounded by flowering hills and enjoying a particularly pleasant and healthy climate. The inhabitants live from tourism and some cultures, including the chilli pepper culture. The expanses of chilli peppers drying in the sun (in March) are a very photogenic vision that is not fail to be exploited by the tourist promotion. The rhythm of life takes you completely out of your comfort zone. Situated in the heart of the Calchaquis Indian region, which was settled at least 9,600 years ago, Cachi is surrounded by archaeological sites that enthusiasts will be delighted to explore. With its cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, authentic village life, market activity and handicrafts, this village is the most important of the Calchaquies valleys, but also the most interesting to discover for its culture, welcoming inhabitants and picturesque streets. However, you are not the first tourists to disembark here. Clever tip. Rendezvous in Cachi on March 18 and 19 for the San José fiesta, very syncretic between Catholicism and pagan rituals. The ceremony of "la quema de los cardones" (the cactus pyre) on the first day is unmissable. The second day: parade of gauchos in festive clothes.
