This small picturesque village located at the gates of the Livradois-Forez Park, kilometres north of Thiers, has preserved many monuments from its medieval history. At this very important time, the vine was used, the cutlery were practiced… The plague - - - announced its decline (exile of makers in Thiers). The centre of Châteldon is worth visiting to discover some treasures of medieval architecture. Start with the place where most of the wooden houses are located, including the old pharmacy, the art exhibition headquarters and the unique writer residence of Auvergne. Out of the square, see the belfry, witness of the fortifications around the city. Once in front of the hotel, take the rue Clément-Dassaud and turn on your right rue de l'Aire to admire the houses of wine growers, easily recognisable to their outdoor wooden balcony. The most sporty will take the surrounding paths marked by designated surveyors, blue-coloured surveyors.
