About 140 km north of Colombo and 74 km southwest of Anuradhapura. The town of Puttalam (45,500 inhabitants), which in itself is not particularly interesting, is located on the lagoon that bears its name, the second largest on the island after Jaffna. It is therefore rather its surroundings and its picturesque panoramas that are interesting. It is probably in the vicinity that King Vijaha (543-505 BC) landed from Sopara (India) and established his capital, Taprobane, whose name was later given to the entire island. The economy of the city is mainly based on the production of salt and coconuts, and its industry. The city is dominated by 25 wind turbines of 60 meters high, located on both sides of the lagoon, visible for several kilometers around
