20 km north of Negombo and 61 km from Colombo. Set back from the A3 towards the ocean, this small town in the district of Puttalam is very marked by Christianity. It is home to a beautiful Catholic church (Our Lady of Presentation) and a famous shrine (Holy Cross Shrine), very popular with pilgrims of various faiths. Marawila also has a beautiful beach, along the road, where it is good to stroll in the shade of coconut trees. Several resorts are located along Marawila Beach and Amagi Beach, a little further north. Marawila is a good alternative to the very (too?) busy resorts of the west coast.
