114 kilometers south of Batticaloa, 219 east of Kandy and 310 from Colombo, Arugam Bay, the Mecca of surfers, has its peak of visits between April and October. The small village is very pleasant and the golden sandy beach beautiful. It is good to stay there for a few days to appreciate the beauty of nature in a place still wild and preserved from tourism. Arugam Bay is also a good starting point to reach the surrounding national parks, such as Kumana National Park (Yala East) or Lahugala Kitulana National Park. Pottuvil is the nearest town. Arugam Bay is one of the villages that were devastated by the tsunami.
