Today we associate the name of Chanonat with the name of the Giscard d'Estaing family. And if this village of the canton of Saint-Amant-Tallende is known mainly for its Château de La Capitale, its village also has an important religious heritage. Several crosses cross the narrow streets of the small village. The parish church is dedicated to Saint Etienne, patron saint of Chanonat since 1699. Dating back to the th and th centuries, she participated in both Romanesque and Gothic art. The priory, the tower Dellile and the tower of Merle, are also charged with history. At last, the Delille fountain, in andesite and in the octagonal tray, is the name of the poet who lived in the village until his thirteen years. However, the village is relatively small. Do not expect to find souvenir shops and guided tours of the monuments mentioned above. Chanonat remains a small, simple village that is pleasant to cross.
