LANKARAMA DAGOBA

This dagoba was built by King Valagamba in the first century B.C. It is located near the elephant pond. Apart from the period of construction, little information exists about this stupa. It has been renovated over the years and no one knows what the original stupa looked like. From the stone pillars surrounding the dagoba, it is clear that it was protected by a vatadage (a roof). Also, the circular path around the stupa is slightly elevated from the ground level. The dagoba measures 14 meters in diameter.
