This statue of a seated Buddha is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the whole country. It dates from the 4th century BC and was carved in granite. It is 2.40 meters high and is now sheltered under a canopy protecting it from the weather. Buddha is shown here in the meditation posture, performing the dhyana mudra. He is seated cross-legged with his hands resting on top of each other, palms facing the sky. This posture corresponds to the first stage of Buddha's spiritual elevation, called samadhi.
