15 kilometers south of Galle. Bounded on one side by a reef, and on the other by the large Koggala Lake, into which many tributaries of the Koggala Oya River flow, this small coastal town has one of the longest beaches in the country, and offers a few places that are still wild. Much less touristy than Unawatuna, Koggala nevertheless has a few resorts scattered here and there. The famous Sri Lankan author Martin Wickramasinghe was born here, and you can even visit a museum dedicated to him. There is a small airport that used to be in operation, but it is now reserved for army use only.
