Fifteen kilometers south of Bentota is the peaceful Ahungalla, with its fine sandy beaches lined with coconut palms, and its upscale establishments. Its beach is considered one of the most beautiful in Sri Lanka. The village has a small railway station but few trains stop there. To the southeast of the village is the Madu Ganga, a large lake with mangrove forests, which offers opportunities for boat rides. The lake is also home to the small island of Cinnamon Island, where you can watch locals working with cinnamon. Many products made from the precious spice are also available
