At 56 km south of Colombo. Beruwela (which we link here to Moragalla) is worth a stop for its long beach facing rocky islets, but also for its Kechchimalai mosque overlooking the harbor, its Al Abrar mosque, one of the oldest in the country, and its old, dilapidated colonial villas nestled in the jungle. The proximity of a coral reef will allow you to swim all year round in safety between the lighthouse and the estuary of Bentota Ganga. You can walk along the harbor early in the morning and watch the fish market. The Muslim quarter is also worth a visit, with its roti vendors and small pastry shops.
