Statues of Murugan, the Hindu warrior god, and his two wives are placed on a chariot to bless passers-by.
The Vel is the trident symbol of Skanda (Murgan or Murugan), the warrior god of Hindu mythology. Statues of Murugan and his two wives are placed on a chariot to bless passers-by. This colorful ceremony is impressive, and may not be recommended for younger people. Indeed, like the Thaipusam, the faithful pierce their skin with needles, or with iron hooks to be able to be suspended by wire during the parade. The procession wanders through the streets to the sounds of jingling bells and traditional songs.
