The island's nickname of "Intense Island" stems from the unique activity of the Piton de la Fournaise, making it the most visited place on Réunion Island. The red and black landscapes are breathtaking. A visit to the volcano is fascinating for many reasons: the setting is totally unusual, and bears witness to the island's geological formation. You can walk on rocks that are five hundred thousand years old, or just a few months old! The beauty of the place, at sunrise or sunset, is breathtaking. The hues of the ground - brown, orange, pink and sometimes shimmering - merge with those of the sky.
