They are undoubtedly among the most beautiful forests in France. Both separate the Cirque de Salazie from the Plaine des Palmistes. The green Bélouve forest is incredibly rich. This primary forest immerses you in a mystical atmosphere of lianas, tree ferns, damp mists and tec-tecs singing. Many hiking trails from Cilaos, Salazie, the Plaine des Lianes and the Plaine des Palmistes intersect here, including the access road to the Trou de Fer. This giant chasm, whose name comes from "l'Enfer", is home to one of the world's most majestic waterfalls and the island's highest waterfall.
