One of the first tourist sites of the island, the Maïdo is well worth the drive, early in the morning, around 6am, to have the chance to discover the circus before the clouds envelop it. The panoramic view is breathtaking with the Gros Morne (3,013 m) in the distance, which partly hides the highest point of the island, the Piton des Neiges (3,070 m). On the left, the bed of the Rivière des Galets and the Roche Écrite (2,276 m), and at the bottom, if the weather is good, you can see Salazie. On the right, the long crest of the rampart culminates at Grand Bénare, the second viewpoint on the island (2,896 m), which can be climbed by a path starting from the viewpoint.
