The highest point on the island, the Montagne Pelée volcano is a prime tourist destination for hikers. The climb, which is accessible to all, offers superb panoramic views in fine weather. The villages of Morne-Rouge and Ajoupa-Bouillon are ideal starting points for the many hiking trails in the region. For information on hiking around Mount Pelée, please refer to tourist offices such as those of the Parc naturel de Martinique in Saint-Pierre and Morne-Rouge. The Maison des Volcans in Morne-Rouge will also be able to provide useful information (duration, types and maps of routes, etc.).
